Event Comment: LLalauze stated he had been 42 years an inhabitant of this country,--retained by Rich 32 years, who promis'd him an annuity of #50 a year whenever he was incapable of performing. This was not in his Will but the Executors allowed it him 3 years. Having sold the property they discontinued it; The new parties engag'd him last year but they would not this season. So Foote gave him the House of 14 Feb. at Haymarket gratis (Winston MS 10). Paid Henry Williams for performing the Bells 4 nights #1 10s. [Letter from Henry Woodward, Clement's Inn, says he fulfilled his seven years engagement and is now going to Scotland with Foote and next to the Hay Market. No direct application was made to re-engage him at Covent Garden or he was ready to meet it (Winston MS 10)

About this time papers say inside of Foote's theatre with Dressing Room Green Room &c. is entirely pulled down to enlarge the stage which is to be nearly twice the size it was. Event Comment: [Maria Macklin in a MS letter to her father this date (See dl 1 Feb. 73) complains that Elfrida alone drew houses at cg this season, and that even that play failed to fill the galleries; that Colman was difficult to see; that Younger carried on all the business of the theatre, everyone kowtowing to him: "Savigny has been discharged from the theatre; Ross has been laid up all the winter with the Gout, and has lately played Lear to a thin house. The Town is big with expectation of Foote's Puppet Show."] Receipts: #166 6s

A long and grudgingly favorable review appeared in the Westminster Magazine: On the whole the Comedy has many excellent qualities: though we cannot venture to recommend it as a pattern for imitation. Still attached to the laudable intent of it, we wish it may keep possession of the stage till a better comedy comes to relieve it." Event Comment: [This was Mrs Hitchcock's 1st appearance in London. Miss Farren was from the Manchester theatre. Miss Twist is identified in playbill of 14 July.] Because of Foote's acting scarcely anything but his own plays "a relaxation of discipline has been fallen into at the Haymarket... The audience last night, however, were not less surprized than pleased at the very regular manner in which the Comedy and the Burletta were exhibited. All the business of the stage perfect, all the little parts smoothly given, and the whole rather superior than inferior to a performance at either of the Winter Theatres" (Morning Chronicle, 10 June)
