Event Comment: DDaily Post, 12 Sept.: Yesterday betwixt One and Two in the Morning, some Rogues broke into the Booth of the younger Yeates, in Southwark Fair, and stripp'd his Wardrobe of Cloaths to the Value of near Forty Pounds, so that he was for some time incapacitated from acting yesterday. [From this notice, it appears that Yeates had a booth at the Fair and may have been open during the entire period from 7 to 21 Sept.

At the General Session...for Courts of Middlesex...on Thursday the 10th Day of May, 17 George II....This Court being informed, that several common Players of Interludes have for several Years used and accusdomed to assemble and meet together at or near a certain place called Tattenhoe, alias Tattenhall, alias Tottenham Court, in the Parish of St.@Pancras in this County, and to erect Booths, and act or exhibit Drolls and other Shews...whereby great Numbers of His Majesty's Subjects have been encouraged to assemble and to commit Riots and other Misdemeanors, in breach of His Majesty's Peace, and to the disturbance of the Neighborhood, of that Place; and that some of the said Players of Interludes, and other evil disposed Persons, are now seeking out and contracting for ground in or near the Place aforesaid, to build Booths for showing and acting said Plays and Drolls...and whereas all such Players of Interludes are deemed and declared Rogues and Vagabonds, and the Acting of such Plays, Drolls and Shews, are contrary to the Inns and Statues of the Realm...require the High Constable to apprehend all and every Players of Interludes, Plays, and Drolls.--Daily Advertiser, 17 May

Gallery 1s. 6d.] The Til'd Booth is the largest and most Commodious in the Fair. The Stage is very long and sufficient to show the Burning of Troyv to the Greatest Advantage (Daily Advertiser). [N.B. at a Booth next to Yeates's ran Parsloe's Grand Medley, including The Town Miss; or, The Miser Outwitted,' by operational moving figures (puppets) followed by dancing, jiggs, disjointments, concluding with a piece of German Clockwork, for the diversion of the Curious.

[For security Phillips has erected no Gallery. Presumably the Patent Theatres were demanding more rigid enforcement of the Licensing Act as indicated in the notice from the Daily Advertiser 18 Sept.: Whereas the Fair called Lady Fair...in the Borough of Southwark...any person or persons..who person..(who ) shall act and exhibit any Droll or Shew (after 20 Sept.) shall be prosecuted and punished according to Law.'

Event Comment: [MMrs Midnight will entertain the Town with her Grand Carnival Concert. After the Concert, gratis, will be given...at Bence's Booth, upper end of Bowling Green. The Afterpiece: a Pantomime Burletta by the Company of Lilliputians. To begin at 12 Noon each day. To prevent mistaking the Booth, Mrs Midnight has thought proper to hoist English Colours. The Booth is made very Theatrical and Commodious for the reception of Gentlemen and Ladies, and a good band of music provided consisting of violins, Bassoons, Hautboys, &c. Event Comment: At Shuter's Booth. [From a puff in the Public Advertiser today, it appears that performances were given at both booths on the 18th. "several heats were ran."

Event Comment: At Yeates' Theatrical Booth, Greyhound Inn, during the time of Bartholomew Fair. The whole to be decorated with decency, and propriety, together with a grand Band of Music, consisting of French Horns, Violins, Trumpets, Hautboys, &c. N.B. There is a convenient Way to the theatre in Cow Lane for coaches, where Ladies and Gentlemen may have admittance without interruption. Boxes 2s. 6d. Pit 2s. First Gallery 1s. Upper 6d. [Several persons had provided booths in the Inns at Smithfield to perform Drolls and Interludes, as had been customary for many years, and were preparing to exhibit accordingly; but the City Marshall and other officers, by order of the Lord Mayor oblig'd them to take down their Shew Cloths and decamp (Morley, Memoirs of Bartholemew Fair).
