Event Comment: Letter to Mr W-d-d in the General Advertiser signed F. [Woodward and Foote]: Oh! ho! is it come?-What at your Irish tricks again?-No my Dear, they won't do; I am too well establish'd here; Do you think we have so soon forgot your H-n Puffs: you defeat me in Ireland! Very likely; as if we did not know you!-but what you (or the whole Town) could mean by propagating such a report, the Devil take me if I know; unless you have taken an antipathy to the Irish, and found out this method to damn their judgment at once. Which by the Bye, Hal, would be a little ungrateful, considering how you profited by their ignorance. But let what will be the motive, if it produces a piece of Dullness equal to your last, I shan't quarrel at the means, or be uneasy now than then, Yours F. (From my Auction Room). [See 18 March.

Afterpiece Title: The British Tars Triumph over M Soup Maigre

Performance Comment: Cast:The performance will be highly enlivened with several entertaining Scenes between England, France, Ireland, and Scotland, in the diverting personges of Ben Bowling, an Dnglish Sailor; M Soup-Maigre, a French Captain; O'Flannaghan, an Irish officer; M'Pherson, a Scotch officer. Through which the manners of each nation will be characteristically and humourously depicted. In which will be introduced as singular and curious a procession as was ever exhibited in this nation. The Objects that compose the Pageantry are both Exotic and British. The Principal figure is the glory and delight of Old England, and the envy of our enemies. The Whole to conclude with a Loyal song on the approaching marriage of our great and glorious Sovereign, King George, and Princess Charlotte of Mecklenberg. An extraordinary band of music is provided: drums, hautboys, violins, French horns, violincellos, bassoons, clarinets. O'Flannaghan, an Irish officer; M'Pherson, a Scotch officer. Event Comment: Mainpiece: By Particular Desire. Paid Younger for writting parts #10 4s. 9d.; Paid Mrs Giles for a Blue & Silver suit of women's cloaths #9 9s. (Account Book). To Covent Garden. Beggar's Opera and Commissary. Found the Pit not over fifth full, and on the 4th bench from orchestra orange woman showed me Pol. Kennedy alias Mrs Bevon, on which I went and sat immediately before her, and talked with her much during the play. Pol. Kennedy in cloak and large hat. She is tall, large and raw-boned. Irish features, yet had something in her face and person necessarily attracting notice--was very civil, curteous, and chatty (Baker, Diary, p. 270). [Pol. Kennedy was the Irish actress and contralto who later appeared as Mrs Farrell at dl in 1776 in Arne's Caractacus.] Receipts: #122 6s. 6d. (Account Book)
