Event Comment: Rich's Company. Post Boy, 30 May-1 June 1700: The Opera of the Prophetess, being this day Commanded to be Acted, for the Entertainment of the two Alcaids, the Envoys from the Emperor of Morocco. [When this play was revived at lif on 3 Dec. 1715, but Rich's Company, the bill was headed: Not Acted these Sixteen Years.

Event Comment: An order of the Court of Common Council for London forbids any performances of plays or interludes at Bartholomew Fair. See a broadside in the British Museum [1851 b. 25 (25)], reported by Alfred Jackson, Review of English Studies, XIV (1938), 55. Flying Post, 22-25 June 1700: The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor and Court of Alderman have ordered that no Play-house Bills be affix'd on any Post, &c. in this City; and the like Orders are resolved on in Westminster

Event Comment: Betterton's Company. London Post, 28 June-1 July 1700: Yesterday the Play called the Tempest was acted at the Old Play-house; and that called Love for Love at the new, both for the benefit of the poor English Slaves, &c. and I am told, that the sum arising thereby, amounted to about 250 #. It being put on the Playhouse Bills on Friday last, That each Company were to Act that day, and the whole Profits to go to'ards the Redemption of the English now in Slavery at Machanisso in Barbary, we are credibly informed, That, pursuant thereunto, the Treasurers of the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, did on Saturday last pay into the hands of the Churchwardens of St.@Martin's the sum of 20 #. out of the Receipts of the Play acted by that Company, towards the Relief of those our Natives from Slavery, which good example 'tis hoped, may move others to be speedy and generous in their Charity for the same purpose. What the other Company gave I do not yet hear

Event Comment: Post Boy, 5-7 Dec.: The Actors of the Theatre Royal, finding the Inconveniency to the Gentry of Playing so late at night, are resolved to continue, beginning their Plays at the Hour of Five every Day, as exprest in their Bills

[in Post Boy, 13-15 Nov., a notice states: "Whereas the Names of Mrs Margarita del'Epine and Mrs Tofts, are mention'd in the Bills for the Opera of Camilla, as if they were to perform the parts of Prenesto and Camilla...That the Publick may not be impos'd upon, This is to give Notice, that the same is done without their Consent; and that they do not intend to perform; there being no Articles of Agreement between them and the Managers...who have of late declin'd coming to any with them."

Event Comment: Colman's Opera Register: March 24 they gave out in ye printed Bills they would revive ye Opera Rinaldo, but by some accident it was put off, & no Opera perform'd this Day

All this is perform'd by Mr Anthony Aston, his Wife and Son of 10 Years only, and will continue Nightly, Bills being stuck up of the whole Entertainment, which varies each Night

Event Comment: Macbeth with cast as 27 Nov. 1718 was advertised in the Daily Courant, but Rich's Register lists The Mourning Bride. On 14 Jan. The Mourning Bride is advertised with the heading: Acted but twice these Two Years, suggesting either that it was not given on 13 Jan. or that the bill, already made up, was not changed for the printer, an unlikely event

Event Comment: At the Desire of several Persons of Quality. Written by the famous Molliere. Daily Courant, 2 May: Monsieur deGrimbergue, Director of the French Comedians, hereby gives Notice, that he is extreamly sorry he could not give on Friday last all the Entertainment he had promised in his Publick Bills, by reason that Signora Violenta unluckily fell sick that very day; and Mons Dangeville refused to Dance, being puft up by the Applause he had the good Fortune to meet with; fancying he hath a Right to do so whenever he pleases

Daily Journal advertises The Fortune Hunters for its second performance, but Rich's Register gives The Beggar's Opera, 33d time; this numbering is recongnized in the bills by 16 March.] Receipts: money #35 2s.; tickets #115 17s.
