Event Comment: long letter appeared in the General Advertiser favoring support of places of public entertainment for the lower classes: That Spectacles such as Rope Dancing, Tumbling and Feats of Activity, are the most harmless and best accommodated to the Genius of the Common people of any which are exhibited, will be evident on considering that they neither harden the heart, pervert or inflame the Inclinations, nor corrupt the principles, but simply gratify the curiosity, the only means by which the populace can receive pleasure from objects of this kind."

I am well assur'd if the curious Part of the Town were once to see them perform, they would need no other Invitation to frequent their House, but to be advertis'd of the Plays, and Days, on which they were to Act

As there is little Hope of a great Demand of Tickets, or Places for that Evening, the Doors will be open'd by Six o'Clock in the Morning, and constant Attendance the whole Day given, for fear any Application shou'd be made for either. Event Comment: Benefit Laguerre, Prisoner in the King's Bench. [Tickets of Laguerre at John's Coffee-House, next door the King's-Bench, Southwark. In the London Daily Post and General Advertiser, 22 April, Laguerre expressed his thanks to Giffard for giving him this benefit and added that, it being term-time, he had "by the common Licence of a Day Rule," liberty to act on 23 April.

At the General Session...for Courts of Middlesex...on Thursday the 10th Day of May, 17 George II....This Court being informed, that several common Players of Interludes have for several Years used and accusdomed to assemble and meet together at or near a certain place called Tattenhoe, alias Tattenhall, alias Tottenham Court, in the Parish of St.@Pancras in this County, and to erect Booths, and act or exhibit Drolls and other Shews...whereby great Numbers of His Majesty's Subjects have been encouraged to assemble and to commit Riots and other Misdemeanors, in breach of His Majesty's Peace, and to the disturbance of the Neighborhood, of that Place; and that some of the said Players of Interludes, and other evil disposed Persons, are now seeking out and contracting for ground in or near the Place aforesaid, to build Booths for showing and acting said Plays and Drolls...and whereas all such Players of Interludes are deemed and declared Rogues and Vagabonds, and the Acting of such Plays, Drolls and Shews, are contrary to the Inns and Statues of the Realm...require the High Constable to apprehend all and every Players of Interludes, Plays, and Drolls.--Daily Advertiser, 17 May

Event Comment: The Subscribers to the Opera are desired to take notice, that upon Saturday Morning Next, there will be a general Rehearsal of the New Opera call'd Anibale in Capua, upon the stage of the king's Theatre in the Hay Market, agreeable to the printed proposals. The Doors will be open'd at Ten, and the Rehearsal will begin at eleven precisely. No person whatever to be admitted without a subscriber's ticket. Attendance will be given this and every Day 'till the Operas begin, at the Office in the Haymarket, from ten in the Morning, till three in the Afternoon, in order to take in Subscriptions, and deliver out tickets.--General Advertiser

Event Comment: This Day at Noon, exactly at Twelve o'Clock...Mr Foote begs the favour of his Friends to come and drink a Dish of Chocolate with him; and 'tis hoped there will be a great deal of good company, and some joyous Spirits; he will endeavour to make the Morning as Diverting as possible. (Tickets for the Entertainment to be had at George's Coffee House, Temple Bar, without which no Person will be admitted.--Daily Advertiser, 24 April only.) Any Gentlemen or Lady, with or without Tickets, will be admitted. Sir Dilberry Diddle will be there and Lady Betty Frisk has absolutely promised. [Repeated 27 April.

Event Comment: MMr Foote thinks it his Duty to return Thanks to his Friends for the great Honour they did him Yesterday, and begs the Favour of their Company this Day at Twelve o'Clock on the same Occasion. It is desir'd by several Persons of Quality, that (to prevent confusion at going out) the Ladies and Gentlemen would pay for their Chocolate going in. We hear the Celebrated Old Comedy call'd Abumazar [sic] from which Johnson is suppos'd to have taken his Alchymist, is now reviving at Drury Lane Theatre, and will be acted some day next week (General Advertiser). Event Comment: At Bridges, Cross, Burton, and Vaughan's Great Theatrical Booth on the Bowling Green, Southwark, (with a company from the theatres) during the short time of the Fair will be presented an Historical Drama (lately acted in Bartholemew Fair with universal applause) the Northern Heroes with the Loves of Count Gillensternia, a Swedish General, and the fair Ellimira a Russian Princess, containing the most remarkable events of that time; and concluding with the memorable battle of Putlowav, and Charles's retreat into the Turkish dominionsv. Interspersed with a comic interlude, The Volunteers. Also the comical humours and amours of Corporal Garbage and Serjeant Slim, with Mrs Vanspriggen the Swedish Sutler's widow, the merry pranks of her foolish son Janny, and several other diverting incidents.
